Biblioteca Marucelliana

Via Cavour 43-45

Opened to the public in 1752, it contains a half million texts and manuscripts, which date back to the Middle Ages.

Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale

Piazza dei Cavalleggeri 1

Built in 1911-1935, the library collection dates back to 1714 when Antonio Magliabechi donated over 30,000 books to create the first public library in Florence. In 1855 it became the official central depositor where one can find a copy of any book published in Italy. One third of their holdings were destroyed by the 1966 flood and many still need restoration forty years later.

Founded by Riccardo Riccardi at the end of the 16th century and opened to the public in 1715, it contains rare editions and manuscripts, including Dante’s Divine Comedy and precious volumes on the history of Florence originally from the Biblioteca Moreniana.
