A Finn at the Court of the Medici is the solo exhibition of the Finnish painter and designer Markku Piri, held at the Palazzo Medici Riccardi from March 23 to June 4.

The exhibition is part of celebrations in Italy for the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence, born out of a deep bond between Piri and Italy, and particularly the Florentine Renaissance.

The show presents a series of artistic glass creations, small sculptures and large-scale installations made by the artist in collaboration with the most renowned artisans from Murano, as well as with artists from the Finnish cooperative Lasismi.

Almost clouded by the beauty of the glass pieces, two-dimensional silk-screen prints are on display, from the series “Shadow Dances,” as are a series of tapestries (the artist is also active in textile design), created in celebration of the centenary.

After Florence, the exhibition will tour to Rome and Murano.

Until June 4
