Florence lands in New York with a themed trade show for US professionals and buyers on May 15 to 17, 2017.

Bandierai degli Uffizi

Florence in New York will take place on the 29th floor of 180 Maiden Lane, Manhattan, a vernissage for high-end products exclusively made in Tuscany. All the products have been crafted by experts according to artistry passed down from father to son over decades, even centuries, and inspired by the beauty and art of this beloved region.

The organizer Consorzio Vasari will present a range of companies, all of which are new to the US market and which illustrate the excellence of Made in Florence and Made in Tuscany. The City of Florence will be in attendance during the trade show to spotlight the Renaissance city’s folk traditions, alongside tourist operators showcasing innovative Tuscan itineraries with a twist.

American buyers who visit the show will be transported to Italy, in an atmosphere of artisan excellence, finding out about Florentine and Tuscan traditions firsthand through talking with the artisans and touching the products stateside.

Gabriele Corcos

The fair will get underway on May 15 with a gala evening (tickets cost $180 per guest, book now at www.florenceinnewyork.com), with a percentage of proceeds benefiting Food Bank for New York City. The evening will begin with a heart-stopping performance by historic Florentine flagbearers Bandierai degli Uffizi, followed by a very Tuscan dinner catered by chef Massimo Tanini from La Cantinetta di Bolgheri, paired with Chianti Classico by Fattoria Santo Stefano. Special guest Gabriele Corcos, the Florence-born star of American TV program “Extra Virgin”  (Cooking Channel/Food Network – winner of the James Beard Prize), NYT bestselling cook book Extra Virgin: Recipes & Love from Our Tuscan Kitchen and owner of the restaurant The Tuscan Gun, Brooklyn, will talk Florence with VIP guests at the gala event. After dinner, guests will be treated to an opera concert with baritone Devid Cecconi (2016 debut at the Opening Night of La Scala Opera House in Milan) and soprano Georgina Stelbow, accompanied on the piano by Maestro Massimo Barsotti. On May 16 and 17, the trade show will be open from 10am to 6pm.

Vania Terzo, president of the Consorzio Vasari, stated, “The event was born out of a love for Florence and a passion for New York. We realized there was a need to provide an institutional and group showcase of the wonders of Tuscany and the knowing hands of our master artisans aimed at the US market, which has always been a key outlet at a commercial, artistic and touristic level. Our Consortium is aiming to remain in the US after the event and to repeat it annually, perhaps on tour in the States.”

Participating businesses will be able to take part in workshops aimed at introducing them to the US market and in meetings with Italian and American professionals, as well as have the chance to show the American public what their work entails by creating their unique artisan products live.

The event was made possible thanks to the support of Banca Ifigest.

Copies of The Florentine will be gifted at the evening as well as being distributed during the fair.
