Two lefts to make it right

The two major left-wing parties, Democratici di Sinistra (DS) and La Margherita, havevoted to disband and join forces to create Italys new Democratic Party.Foreign minister Massimo DAlema will most likely be considered the partysfounding father. Chairperson of the US Democratic party, governor Howard Dean,was invited to address this caucus, which met both in Florence on April 21 and Rome on April 22. While in Italy, Deanwas asked for his advice on how to achieve unification. He applauded the controversial decision, saying, For the Democratic Party in the United States,this fusion means having a bigger, stronger, more progressive partner inItaly.
