Tax smoothing

Provincial president vows reductions

Others promise tax cuts, but we actually carry them out', affirmed provincial president Matteo Renzi just a few days after the general elections came to a close. One of Italy's youngest politicians announced that residents in the province will soon pay the minimum tariffs required for automobile and garbage collection.

Renzi announced a 9 million euro tax cut in the entire province: ‘We purposefully chose not to announce our decision to reduce provincial taxes during the election campaign, even though we had decided to introduce these measures prior to the elections. The proposed cuts mean that the province of Florence will exert less fiscal pressure', he added. Renzi also said that the province boasts the minimum tax requirement for electric energy.

In real terms, the province's move to ease fiscal pressure means that individual citizens will save from 10 to 20 euro, while for local businesses, savings are estimated at about 100 euro. Currently, each Tuscan, including children, pays approximately 1550 euro a year in municipal, provincial and regional taxes combined.

On the province's announced tax reduction, president of the Tuscan region, Claudio Martini, expressed his support for the measure but warned that the tax cuts should not negatively influence the quality and quantity of social services offered.
