Get the City Card

(issue no. 104/2009 / June 18, 2009)
Access to municipal museums

Local officials recently announced that Florence will soon offer a museum card to both residents and tourists. The card would provide access to 36 of the city's municipal museums, including the Stibbert, the House of Dante, the Science Museum, Palazzo Strozzi, the Fondazione Alinari and Santa Maria Novella.
According to the local press, the cards will be available at tourist offices and hotels by the end 2009.

The tourist card will cost 20 euro and last for 48 hours, during which time visitors can ride all Ataf and Tra-in buses and enter any of the participating museums free of charge. Locals will pay 50 euro for their city card, valid for one year and allowing only free entrance to the participating city-run museums.
Both cards will include a pocket-sized map of the city.

Local officials hope that the Florence's state-run museums and galleries, which include the Uffizi Gallery, the Galleria dell'Accademia, Palazzo Pitti and the Cappelle Medicee, among others, will join the initiative in the near future. Currently, free entrance to the state museums is available through membership in the Friends of the Uffizi, good for one year, and a cost-saver for those visitors who plan to either cover several museums or make multiple visits to a few: see www.amicidegliuffizi.it
