Italy's influence on show,

Rome readies for Made in Italy exhibition
(issue no. 143/2011 / May 19, 2011)

The irresistible appeal of Italy for international artists is deeply rooted in history, as Rome's Gagosian Gallery will show in the collective exhibit Made in Italy, from May 27 through July 9.

Offering a unique chance to see some of the greatest artworks from the last 60 years, the exhibit reconstructs the personal and creative journeys that brought so many of the western world's best artists at specific moments in their careers into direct contact with a universal legacy: Italy.

Marking the 150th anniversary of Italian unity, the exhibition showcases the Italy-influenced works by such artists as Georg Baselitz, Jean Michel Basquiat, Marcel Duchamp, Alberto Giacometti, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Louise Lawler, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Prince, Robert Rauschenberg, Gerhard Richter, Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, David Smith, Thomas Struth and Andy Warhol.
