Based in Scandicci, the Florentine fashion house Gucci has signed an agreement to help 573 smaller companies and strengthen the entire fashion industry in the area. The smaller companies and artisans that supply Gucci, among them Florentine leather workers, will be monitored by a third party for financial or technical problems, which, if they exist, will be addressed by Gucci. The arrangement, the first of its kind in Italy, seeks to support smaller companies facing global competition and adverse effects of the economic crisis.
