Considered the father of American illustrators, Pyle lived the last year of his life in Florence, where he also had a studio.

Speakers at the conference will include Professors Jeff Pike and Douglas B. Dowd of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, Professors Valeria Bruni and Semeraro of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, and Deirdre Pirro of The Florentine.

The conference will take place in the Sala del Cenacolo (see address at top right), and a plaque in Pyle's honour will be unveiled in the afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the address where he resided in Florence at via Garibaldi, 12.
