Considered the father of American illustrators, Pyle lived the last year of his life in Florence, where he also had a studio.

Speakers at the conference will include Professors Jeff Pike and Douglas B. Dowd of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, Professors Valeria Bruni and Semeraro of the Accademia delle Arti e del Disegno, and Deirdre Pirro of The Florentine.

The conference will take place in the Sala del Cenacolo (see address at top right), and a plaque in Pyle's honour will be unveiled in the afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the address where he resided in Florence at via Garibaldi, 12.
