This October sees Lost In Florence Open Studio Weekend: 12 studios, 2 days, open to the public to stop by and meet the artisans, with pit stops for café and wine along the way. It aims to encourage the public go inside the studios of Florence and experience this unique side to the city. Positioned around Florence’s historic centre these studios are the working spaces of modern artisans, many also shop or showroom. When the World Answered: Florence, Women Artists and the 1966 Flood is the latest book from The Florentine Press, which furthers the quest of the Advancing Women Artists Foundation to reveal works by women in the city. Linda Falcone and Jane Fortune will present their new book describing works by numerous women whose stories and interviews offer a personal look at twentieth-century creativity in Italy. The exhibition, Le donne del digiuno contro la mafia, is a collect of photographs from Francesco Francaviglia, portraying the women who took a stand against violence. In 1992, Palermo was stunned by grief and rage at the mafia bombings, killing many loved ones. Eleven strong women took a courageous stance, alternating piazza Castelnuovo, fasting and making a stand for justice: hunger for justice. Free entry to the exhibition which is held in ex-church of San Pier Scheraggio, Uffizi Gallery.

The Two Faces of January is a period thriller based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel. The plot centres around a glamorous American couple (Viggo Mortensen and Kirsten Dunst) on holiday in Athens during the 1960s.While sightseeing at the Acropolis they encounter Rydal (Oscar Isaac) who is lured into their lives. The Hundred-Foot Journey is a feel-good film about multicultural understanding, with Helen Mirren and Om Puri as battling restaurant owners. Tuesdays at the cinema with Palazzo Strozzi sees the screening of French film The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, on Tuesday 21 at 8.30pm.
