Forget the standard sunset-watching locations like piazzale Michelangelo and San Miniato. Take in the view from the top of the tower of San Niccolò. Restored in 2011, the historic fortress is open for its annual series of guided visits. Offered daily (weather permitting) during prime tramonto time, visits start every 30 minutes from 5pm to 8pm. HOMESPUN/Florence Folks Festival

The first edition of this homespun event brings folksy flavor to Firenze Sud. Florence Folks Festival will feature a colorful combination of food, crafts and music, with market action kicking off each night at 7pm and music or other performances beginning at 9.30pm. ExtraLiscio opens the festivities on July 29 with their swing music with a contemporary twist: all ages are invited to the dance floor! The other main events include a reading by Guido Catalano (July 30) and a DJ set from Argentine star Chanca Via Circuito (July 31), which will serve as the soundtrack for a Disco Soup event, an innovative international movement designed to combat food waste. View more information about the festival here.

Sip on an aperitif and catch a bit of summer breeze at Villa Bardini, which hosts its final Sorsi di Musica event of the season this Tuesday. If you’ve never taken part in this popular series, now’s the perfect time to try it out as the city slows down. For just 8 euro, attendees enjoy an open-air concert with an aperitivo afterward, set against the backdrop of one of Florence’s most striking settings.
