Florence–March–Taste: this holy trinity is a tried-and-tested combination after nine increasingly successful years of culinary excellence.

This year, approximately 300 Italian food producers flying the flag of excellence in their respective fields are expected to attend Taste, the event dedicated to food lifestyle, flavour and design, held at the Stazione Leopolda from March 8 to 10. 2014 will welcome 55 new exhibitors and sees an overall increase in those taking part in the fair. In short, three days to savour the succulence of the regions of Italy in their purest forms.

Delight in tastings of the products presented by the various producers to find out more about Italy’s gastronomic riches. Honey-mellowed trout tartare, truffle-infused parmesan cream and Sicilian pistachio and white chocolate panettone are just some of the heavenly morsels that make Taste Italy’s top food fair—that’s quite a claim, and I don’t make it lightly.

What makes Taste so special is the foodie ambience that can be felt all over Florence. Fuori di Taste is a side order to the main course at the Stazione Leopolda, but has become so widespread that even supermarkets are jumping into the frying pan. On March 8, at 1pm, lunch will be cooked up by two Michelin starred chef Gianfranco Vissani at Florence’s Coop Novoli (Via Enrico Forlanini, 1) in collaboration with Gastronomia Toscana.

On March 7, at 7pm, cooking school Apicius (via Guelfa, 85) will hold a free rice-based cooking show, with dishes prepared by students from around the world. On March 8, throughout the day, Vinoutlet (borgo Ognissanti, 70r) will offer free tastings of the finest torrone paired with moscato d’Asti DOCG and organic dessert wines from Puglia.

Take a foodie walk along via Santo Spirito on March 8 between 4 and 8pm, as ateliers and workshops throw open their doors to the very best of Italian food and wine with unique tastings and food-themed exhibitions.

Many of Florence’s finest restaurants will be holding special events—reservation required and for a fee—as part of Fuori di Taste, including a truffle-based meal at award-winning Ristorante Ora d’Aria, an exclusive tasting menu at Il Palagio, at Four Seasons Florence, and even Momoyama’s The Meat Sushi Box at recently opened Antica Macelleria Falorni.
