The British Institute of Florence will celebrate its centenary in 2017 and has just launched a series of events and initiatives in the lead up to the landmark anniversary. An official 100-day countdown began with an elegant evening at the Società Canottieri Firenze on September 20. New British Ambassador to Italy Jill Morris was present, speaking alongside British Institute Director Julia Race and Mayor Dario Nardella.

During her formal address, Morris announced that Salvatore Ferragamo S.p.A. will donate 150,000 euro to the Harold Acton Library as part of a current fundraising campaign for the institute’s operations and numerous cultural activities.

For centenary celebrations in 2017, the institute will organize a British Film Festival in collaboration with the Odeon Cinehall, a picnic for students and alumni in the Cascine Park, a new art history course titled “100 Treasures of Florence” and a gala dinner at Palazzo Vecchio for key supporters.
