From fireside aperitivi at Il Lounge to Michelin-starred New Year’s Eve menus at La Bottega del Buon Caffè and the chance to take home a piece of L’Enoteca’s wine philosophy, Borgo Santo Pietro in the City has the festive season covered.
This New Year’s Eve at La Bottega del Buon Caffè, Michelin-starred chef Antonello Sardi serves an elaborate 10-course degustation menu that showcases the team’s virtuoso touch with freshly caught seafood, traditional meat dishes and ingredients drawn from the biodynamic culinary garden at its mother estate, Relais Borgo Santo Pietro, near Siena. Offered with the choice of wine-pairing from La Bottega’s consummate cellar of 1,100-plus rare and sought-after labels, the menu is crowned with an innovative take on the traditional lentil dish, customarily served throughout Italy at midnight as the old year gives way to the new according to the folk belief that doing so ushers in prosperity and happiness.
Next door there are few more inviting locations in winter for a quick hot coffee while Christmas shopping, a leisurely festive aperitivo or warming post-dinner digestivo than a fireside drink at Il Lounge. An ample selection of hot drinks and more than 400 wines by the glass are available, as well as nearly 40 different types of whisky alone. Wine lovers keen to sample more of La Bottega’s wine philosophy can do so at L’Enoteca, where head sommelier Vito Angelilli offers boutique and tailor-made wine degustations, and patrons can toast the festive season with a purchase of celebratory bubbles from the cellar.
