After months of
applications, paperwork and visa headaches, you are now living in Florence, one
of the lucky 4,000 American students enrolled in one of the 40 different study-abroad
programs. A celebratory gelato in hand, you are officially ready to start your
European adventure.

No doubt you are
already strategizing the best way to squeeze London, Dublin and Paris into a
single long weekend. But before you go jetting off to Germany for Oktoberfest
or to Prague to see Charles Bridge, take some time to get to know Florence.

The Florentine is here to help you transform this foreign
city into your home, with guides and tips for local events, great dining and
secret finds. Visit local marketplaces and pick out fresh tomatoes like a pro,
see museums and exhibits off the beaten path and find all the good deals at the
city shops (sometimes with a student discount!). And while you’re making
yourself at home in Florence, you might just be surprised at how Florence is
changing you. You may have arrived as a Starbucks-wielding, fist-pumping
American, but you’ll leave a suave and savvy Florentine if you fully embrace
the experience.
