Tuscany’s Renaissance and Etruscan masterpieces are world famous, but the region’s twentieth-century art gets scant attention. Toscana ’900, a project of the Tuscan Region and the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, seeks to redress that.

With a tour, a guidebook and an app as well as exhibitions and other events scheduled from June 13 to December 31, 2015, Toscana ’900 showcases Tuscany’s rich contributions to twentieth-century art.

Not only artists such as Ottone Rosai and Marino Marini but many others who lived and worked in the region, many of whom achieved international success, and collectors who ventured to Tuscany on buying trips, will be the focus when 22 museums open their doors each weekend for free guided tours, family workshops and educational activities.

Among the participating museums are Palazzo Pitti’s Modern Art Gallery and the Museo del Novecento in Florence; the Graphics Museum in Pisa and Palazzo Fabroni in Pistoia; and art parks such as the Tarot Garden in Capalbio and the Monumental Park of Pinocchio in Pescia. A pass will grant discounted or free access to the museums, along with other discounts from participating hotels, restaurants and businesses.

The free app (for iPhone and Android) includes a map of Tuscany’s museums holding or featuring twentieth-century art, lists their exhibitions and events, and provides seven tours: ‘House Museums and Artists’ Homes’; ‘Sculpture’; ‘Environmental art and parks in southern Tuscany’; ‘Liaisons: The 1900s and the Ancient in Florence’; ‘Black-and-White Tour: 20th-Century Graphic Art’; ‘Fashion and Design Museums’.

For more information on events and passes, links to the app and a full list of participating museums, visit www.toscana900.com.
