It’s the film that launched a thousand love affairs with Florence: director James Ivory’s Oscar-winning adaptation of E.M. Forster’s 1908 novel A Room with a View, set between Italy and England, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Cinema Odeon hosted a gala night screening on October 5 to mark the occasion, with Ivory and cast members Helena Bonham Carter (Lucy Honeychurch) and Julian Sands (George Emerson) in attendance.

The gala night came just a few hours after Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella awarded Ivory the Fiorino d’Oro, the city’s highest civilian honor, in a ceremony at Palazzo Vecchio. Celebrations will continue over the weekend and have been organized by Cinema Odeon Firenze, Fondazione Sistema Toscana (Cinema La Compagnia), The British Institute of Florence and New York University Florence.
