The locks attached to the fence surrounding the statue of Cellini on the Ponte Vecchio had been growing exponentially recently, and the City finally decided last week that it was time to start removing them. Attaching a lock to the fence became a trend that caught on quickly among youngsters. Often, young couples, as an expression of love, will buy a lock, attach it to the fence and then toss the key off the Ponte Vecchio, into the Arno River.
