After the latest in a number of talks between Italian government officials and major union representatives, it seems that both sides continue to move farther from an agreement.

 

In the midst of economic troubles, the Italian government is pushing for cuts in every sector possible; meanwhile, state workers have long been requesting a raise in wages.

 

Once again, state workers’ unions could not manage to get the government to agree upon a one hundred euro raise for all sectors in negotiations last Friday, and the CGIL, CISL, and UIL unions have now decided that they will be organising a general strike sometime in June.
