Italy continues to be the world’s gastronomic super power, holding the number one spot as top destination for food lovers, with France as a distant second.

According to a recent survey in leading Italian food magazine Gambero Rosso, Tuscany and Sicily are still battling for the number one spot, but are however voted far superior to the other regions.

The world’s image of Italian cuisine also seems to be changing these days. Gone are the saucy Italian spaghettis and pizzas, and here to stay are more local, traditional delicacies like focaccias and the newly rediscovered cuisine from the north of Italy. Though the quality of Italian cuisine is highly regarded, this still does not stop most consumers (80%) from accepting imitation Italian food products.
