Whether you live in Florence or are a guest here, whether you are a true athlete or a mere tenderfoot, everyone is invited to put their feet to work in the fight against breast cancer. The fourth edition of  Florence’s annual Corri la vita walkathon/marathon is just around the cor-ner, and participants of all ages and walks of life are invited to participate. Bring family and friends to piazza Santa Croce on Sunday, Oc-tober 1 at 9 am to kick-off the non-competitive walk (approx. 6 km) through some of the city’s most beautiful and historical sites. Same time, same place, for those who wish to participate in the competitive mini-marathon (12 km). Last minute enrolment booths open at 8 am!  Corri la vita is an annual event, organized by CSPO (Study Centre for Cancer Prevention) and LILT (Italian League in the fight against tumours). Thanks to the success of Corri la vita, it has been possible to found ‘Cerion’, Florence’s new Cancer Rehabilitation Center (Centro di Riabilitazione Oncologica). Its goal is to provide physical and psychological rehabilitation to women who have undergone breast or intestinal surgery. Part of the money collected with Corri la vita is  donated to  FILE (Fondazione Italiana di Leniterapia ) a  foundation which offers hospice care and pain relieving therapies to cancer survivors.‘There has been a lot of political interest in Corri la vita, but we strive to achieve two things: we don’t want to be political, and we want the marathon identified with Florence; we want the money to stay here. Corri la vita is not for research, we’re for prevention, and for actu-ally helping people who have had breast cancer,’ says Suzanne Pictcher Flaccomio one of the event’s organizers. A medical certificate is mandatory for runners of the competitive mini-marathon and both competitive and non-competitive participants must complete an entry form, (both forms are available on the website at www.corrilavita.it). Participants will receive a bib number to-gether with a coupon for a free Salvatore Ferragamo T-shirt, which can be picked up at LILT (Lega Italiana Lotta ai Tumori) Viale Volta 173, Florence, (phone 055 576939). The registration fee is a minimum 10 euro donation per person (children under 10 are ‘free’). For more information on Corri la vita see page 19.)
