Over 10,000 teenagers and stargazers flocked to piazzale Michelangelo to catch a glimpse of Hollywood star Cameron Diaz and her Shrek co-star, Antonio Banderas. The two made a special appearance at MTV’s Total Request Live while it was being broadcast in Florence’s celebrated square. With the Renaissance city as their backdrop, myriad screaming adolescent fans welcomed the celebrities, who were in Florence to promote the up-coming Italian debut ofShrek sequel, Shrek 3.
Produced by Dreamworks, the very successful animated film will be released in Italian theatres on August 31. Diaz speaks for Princess Fiona and Banderas is the voice of the cowboy boot–wearing cat. The actors revealed that Diaz’s voice is dubbed in the Italian version of the film, although Banderas recites his part in both English and Italian. Florence was the first stop on the Italian promotional tour, which took to the stars to Rome and other major cities.
