On a hot, hazy afternoon, in the heart of the city, just under the Ponte alle Grazie, the luckiest fisherman in Florence made an extraordinary catch. The prize on the end of the hook last week was a two-meter-long European catfish.

Onlookers gathered on the bridge and streets above the river to watch as the young man wrangled several minutes with the gigantic freshwater fish. When he pulled in this catch, the lucky angler then jumped into the Arno, showing the big fish to the cheering crowd above. The amazed group of tourists and Florentines took photos and then applauded the fisherman’s decision to release the giant back into the silver river.
