Speaking from a summit in Moscow, Silvio
Berlusconi described U.S. president elect Barack Obama as ‘young, handsome also
tanned’. Italy’s prime minister refused to issue an official apology for the
remark, saying it was a ‘great compliment.’ Berlusconi, who has often said that
he feels ‘misunderstood’ for his sense of humour, accused critics of his
‘compliment’ as being ‘imbeciles’ who lack a healthly sense of humour.
Nonetheless, the ‘tanned’ remark stirred a fresh debate across the globe.

Do you think Berlusconi’s remark was all in good
fun or just plain offensive? Let us know what you think at The Florentine
