Although condoms are available in pharmacies, supermarkets and vending machines throughout Italy, to reduce the risks of unprotected sex among minors, the province of Rome has decided to make them more directly available to youth. The provincial council recently approved a motion to install condom machines in high schools and universities. Educational pamphlets about the dangers of unprotected sex will also be distributed at the machines. The decision was not without controversy: while most of the councilors supported the motion, some were firmly against it.
