Florentines are among the most active, sports-minded citizens in Italy. Now residents and visitors have the chance to stay fit while admiring the city, thanks to six new walking and jogging paths, inaugurated on October 24.
Promoted by the city’s sports superintendence and designed by Assi Giglio Rossi, the paths, called Firenze the walking city. Il percorso più bello nel mondo, are of different distances and levels of difficulty.
The one-kilometer Route 1 (green) loops around the green areas of the Assi sports complex. Route 2 (purple), is 1.8 kilometers, follows viale Michelangelo. At two kilometers, Route 3 (yellow) winds up to Piazzale Michelangelo and San Miniato al Monte. At five kilometers, the panoramic Route 4 (blue) follows viale Michelangelo to Piazzale Galileo. Route 5 (pink) is 3.5 kilometers and links Piazzale Michelangelo to Le Rampe, with short stretches along via dell’Assi, via dei Bastioni, and viale Michelangelo. The longest, Route 6 (orange), follows Viale dei Colli to Porta Romana, Viale del Poggio Imperiale and Viale Torricelli for 7.5 kilometers.
An Info Point was set up in the Assi complex complete with course maps, locker rooms, showers and other services for joggers and walkers. Officials say another three routes will soon be opened.
