On
January 19, internationally
acclaimed Brooklyn-born actor and director John Turturro debuted in his latest
theatre production, inspired by Italo Calvino’s collection of short stories, Fiabe
Italiane, at the landmark Carignano Theatre in Turin, on occasion of the
theatre’s 300th anniversary. ‘I have wanted to stage this show for some time,’
said Turturro, ‘I admit, it wasn’t easy to translate Calvino’s fables into
theatre; he is such an extraordinary author.’ The show, in English, with Italian
subtitles, runs until January 30 (www.teatrostabiletorino.it). It then travels
to the Teatro San Ferdinando in Naples from February 2 to 7, and to Milan’s
Teatro Strehler from February 9 to 14.
