For the first time since 1961, when it was launched globally by UNESCO’s
International theatre Institute, Italy will celebrate the theatre
and performing arts on March 27 as part of World Theatre Day. Italy will join the events, held
annually on March 27, celebrating its first year of participation with a series
of performances that promote the country’s renowned centuries-old theatre
tradition.
Theatres across
the country will be staging non-stop performances. School students will be
given free access to performances, and other special offers are planned to pull
in the crowds. To promote youth engagement with theatre, schools across the
country will hold performances and plays, in collaboration with the education
ministry.
Events are also planned at Italian culture institutes in New York, Paris and London, with some of Italy’s most acclaimed theatre
actors, such as Giorgio Albertazzi, Antonia Brancati, Claudia Cardinale, Anna
Proclemer and Maurizio Scaparro.
