The two Italian soldiers who died in a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan on May 20 were given a state funeral in Rome’s Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli, attended by President Giorgio Napolitano, Premier Silvio Berlusconi and other top figures. The soldiers, both from the Alpine regiment, Sergeant Massimiliano Ramadù from the Etruscan town of Velletri, near Rome, and Corporal Luigi Pascazio, from a town near Bari, were killed while riding in an armoured car. Two other corporals were injured in the blast.
