With rain and below-average temperatures, even snow at high altitudes, Italy marked the official start of summer on June 21. Weather experts from the CNR, however, claim that the unusually cool temperatures will soon be over as the summer hits its peak in July and August. ‘Over the past years, we’ve had hotter temperatures as early as May, which stayed relatively consistent through spring and summer. We’ve had a very rainy spring this year, with drops in temperature in the north. At the moment, the weather previsions tell us that things will progressively improve and that average seasonal temperatures will return in July and August, with a few heat waves,’ assures Massimiliano Pasqui from the Biometeorolgy Institute at the CNR.
