From September 20 to 24, Milan became even more ‘social,’ hosting Italy’s first Social Media Week.
Highlighting not only Internet chats and social networks but everything else the web has to offer, the event also focused on online gambling and games, sites dedicated to shopping, e-commerce and the labour market, new forms of information sharing, and more.
The idea behind Italy’s Social Media Week was born in 2009 in New York City. The goal of the event is to gather people, bloggers, journalists, non-profit organizations, artists and businesses to educate them on the latest Internet trends, especially those in the world of business.
This year, the event was held simultaneously in Milan, Los Angeles, Bogotà, Buenos Aires and Mexico City, and more than 90 events in various locations around Milan included video conferencing and use of the Web to connect in real-time with other cities.
Special guests in Milan were co-founder of FourSquare, Naveen Selvadurai; Rand Fishkin, one of the world’s experts in search engines; and Dina Kaplan, co-founder of the television network Blip.tv.
