ViaEmiliaDocFest, which celebrates the documentary, takes place entirely on the Internet. The novelty of it is that users can cast their vote, using a computer, iPad or iPhone, at http://www.viaemiliadocfest.tv, where they can find a list of the films competing, a calendar of events, film descriptions as well as the biographies of filmmakers.

The 25,000 people who have registered as users have until September 29 to cast their vote for the 30 finalists for the Web Community Award. A jury of experts will choose the winner of the ViaEmiliaDocWeb Award. A two-day celebration in Reggio Emilia, from October 15 to 17, allows winners and finalists to meet and network.

The event is open to all filmmakers who want to participate in scouting sessions with representatives from Bonsai TV and Current TV. The ViaEmiliaDocFest closes in Modena with ‘Rock around the Doc’ rock music retrospective, running from October 22 to 24.

The festival, organized by Pulsemedia, in collaboration with the cities of Reggio Emilia and Modena, the Region of Emilia-Romagna and CorriereTV, hopes to become an important platform for independent documentary film in Italy and encourage more investigative reporting in Italian journalism.
