Parents who want to save money for day care should move to Sardinia, suggests Italo Farnetani, a university professor in Milan. Farnetani recently conducted a study, finding that grandparents in Sardinia are more likely to care for their grandchildren while parents are at work, avoiding the extra costs of day care. Farnetani estimates that the collective savings across the island add up to 1,000,000 euro annually.
