Fifteen years ago, the area between Milan’s San Babila
and the Sforzesco Castle was the largest urban pedestrian area in Europe;
today, it is the largest free wi-fi area in city. Called WiMi, the wi-fi area
allows netizens to tweet from the Victor Emanuel Gallery and upload photos of
the Madonnina in Piazza Duomo to Facebook just minutes after taking them. The
service currently allows free, one-hour Internet access. City officials plan to
extend the service soon to other parts of the city and all schools in Milan.
