In business only three and a half years, the Libreria de’ Servi will close in May. The fallout: three employees will be made redundant, a wealth of books will be discounted for sale and one of the most historic streets in the centre of Florence will have lost a literary haven. ‘We went against the trend by opening in a period of economic crisis,’ explains owner Massimiliano Chiari. ‘We were aware that it was not a future-forward-looking decision, but we were hoping to make it.’ It will begin clearance sales with discounts of 30 percent on the already discounted prices.
