Following a recent scandal into the considerable budget deficit of the Azienda Sanitaria Locale (ASL) health service in Massa Carrara and investigations into the financial state of Tuscany’s other provincial health departments, the prosecutor of Massa Carrara, Aldo Giubilaro, recently announced that the ASL Firenze is also being probed in a preliminary investigation, despite there being no evidence of wrongdoing or over-spending. ‘In essence, we have been informed that what’s been happening in the ASL Massa Carrara may be happening also in other provincial ASL offices, with the same results, or rather, with the same budget deficits.’ President of the Tuscan Region, Enrico Rossi, said the region would ‘collaborate with investigators and I am sure we will come out well.’
