Mayor Renzi was in London yesterday to present Florence as an innovative city. The Mayor of Florence attended a summit with the mayor of Warsaw Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, the mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg and Boris Johnson, the mayor of London.

Renzi was invited to take part in the summit as an innovator, due to the policies implemented during his time at the Palazzo Vecchio, in particular pedestrianization, “zero volume” (no new construction), the quota of women on the city council and a low number of councillors.

Following Renzi’s swift visit to Germany to meet Angela Merkel in July, the London summit is the next stepping-stone paving the way in international relations between Florence and other major cities.
