Security cameras have been installed in Florence’s piazza Duomo in efforts to combat petty crime and unruly behaviour.

The cutting-edge surveillance technology, installed by the company in charge of the city’s lighting system Silfi spa, provides real time video feed to the police and watches over the entire square.

The camera is installed in front of the archbishopric, on the corner overlooking via Roma, piazza San Giovanni and via de’ Pecori, providing the fullest possible views of the area.

The new security system was installed due to requests made by shop owners who have undergone a recent spate of thefts and damage.
