The Uffizi Gallery will close six rooms for building restoration beginning Tuesday, July 22. Renovation efforts aim to improve the current climate system with a new air-treatment device and enhancing room illumination through the integrated use of natural and artificial lighting.

Access will be closed to gallery rooms 2 (which houses the three Maestà of Cimabue, Giotto and Duccio da Buoninsegna), 3 (12th century Sienese art), 4 (12th century Florentine art), 5 and 6 (International Gothic) and 7 (Early Renaissance works).

Fortunately for disappointed museum-goers, selected works from these rooms will be on display in rooms 43, 44 and 45.

The rooms are expected to reopen in spring 2015.
