During the Icastica arts festival, from June 28 to September 27, 100 artists will take over Arezzo, merging the contemporary with the old masters in more than 40 venues.
With this year’s theme of Cultivating Culture, echoing that of the Expo 2015 in Milan, Icastica brings to the public attention issues of sustainability, diet, waste and urban agriculture—through the lens of arts and culture. The festival, now in its third year, uses Arezzo’s churches and chapels, museums and monuments, streets and squares as sites to display painting, installations and performances, conversation, music, cinema and poetry.
Among the participants, Rome’s Fondazione Terzo Pilastro brings street art by 999 Contemporary, featuring artists Eron, Moneyless, Seth, Sten & Lex and Brad Downey.
‘Icastica represents a fantastic synergy between classical and contemporary culture,’ explained Emmanuele Emanuele, president of Fondazione Terzo Pilastro, who hopes to bring Icastica to Rome in the near future. ‘We will leave a permanent sign in Arezzo, with works that will become part of the city.’ See festival details at www.icastica.it.
