Maybe you were one of the many people who slept there overnight, or maybe you just wondered what all the queuing was about.

On September 26, Florence’s first central Apple Store opened under the arches in piazza della Repubblica. The former bank has been converted into a contemporary, airy space in the usual Apple Store style with a nod to the historic palazzo: wooden tables, pietra serena floors, large coffered ceilings and elegant chandeliers. The vast main room is flanked by two smaller side wings offering a range of accessories.

The opening of an Apple Store always brings enthusiasts with it. As reported in online newspaper, Firenze Post, one 20-year-old came all the way from China via Brussels for the opening, only to be disappointed to find that he was fifth in the queue. One Apple enthusiast, Alessandro Citton, came from Venice for the opening. Citton explained, ‘I’ve gone to 15 out of 16 Apple Store openings all over Italy. Eight times I was the first person to enter, but there’s always room for improvement.’

The first 100 people in the queue were rewarded with free t-shirts.

Apple Store Firenze is open every day from 10am to 8pm.
