The Pistoia Zoo closed out 2015 on a celebratory note with the birth of a female zebra.

In celebrating the birth, on December 30, the zoo called on visitors and friends to choose her name via its Facebook page. Besting the other two top contenders, Striscia (Stripe) and Zoe, the winning suggestion was Hope.

Opened in 1970, Pistoia’s seven-acre zoo is home to 400 animals, both native to Italy and, as zoo’s director Paolo Cavicchio notes, like Hope, exotic. It regularly hosts children’s parties and school groups as well as offering photography and educational programs.
