Community-based fundraising continues to pick up steam in Italy: Crowdarts, the first crowdfunding platform dedicated specifically to the performing arts, has just launched. Founded in Florence by Serena and Luigi Telesca, Crowdarts aims to create alternative means of financing for artists and performers with limited resources. With funding from the European Union, it welcomes global projects in art forms varying from theatre and opera to puppetry and circus acts.

Three sections will be delineated on the platform: “Production Campaigns,” “Crowdshow” and “Marketplace.” The “Production Campaigns” section is designed to support creative projects that are still in the “germination” phase: projects that have not yet been developed or produced and need financing to get off the ground. “Crowdshow,” rather, is open to performances and projects that have already been completed and have at least one venue interested in bringing it to life, but need additional financial support. Artists and directors that are still in search of venues to host their performances or projects can browse through the “Marketplace” section, a networking platform where artists and spaces can find each other.

The co-working space Impact Hub (via Panciatichi 14, F building) will host a Crowdarts celebration and presentation (in Italian) on Saturday, March 19, beginning at 4pm. Presenters will outline the platform’s goals and some of the current campaigns. A series of performing arts and entrepreneurship-focused talks will follow, after which there will be an aperitivo, DJ set and networking session.
