A large (70cm) broken tube is the cause of the dramatic collapse of a stretch of Lungarno Torrigiani, adjacent to the Ponte Vecchio and across the Arno from the Uffizi this morning at 6:15am. The 3-7 meter deep chasm affects 200 meters of the riverside road, swallowing up parked cars, some into muddy water. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Publiacqua reports disruption of water service in Florence and surrounding areas as they work to repair broken tubes.

Passersby observed flooded streets from a broken tube on the night of Tuesday May 24 - Wednesday May 25 in via de' Bardi and on the Lungarno.
