The lungarno in front of the Uffizi has reopened temporarily after a handful of its stones sank by a few centimetres on November 19.

In a press release issued by the City of Florence, lungarno Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici will be closed for resurfacing starting November 28. The reopening comes after a temporary fix was implemented to enable the city’s marathon runners to maintain their usual route on November 27. The work is expected to take one month.

During the resurfacing, those with authorized vehicles will be able to drive along lungarno Torrigiani, via dei Bardi, Borgo San Jacopo and lungarno Guicciardini. Those heading for San Niccolò must pass by piazza Pitti, via Guicciardini and via dei Bardi.

This latest incident affecting Florence’s riverside roads raises further concerns about urban stability following from the lungarno Torrigiani sinkhole in May 2016.
