The sacristy dome of the basilica of Santo Spirito will undergo restoration in the New Year.
The City of Florence has earmarked 350,000 euro for the project after cracks in the roof and walls were detected during a recent laser survey. Work on the basilica which houses a wooden crucifix by Michelangelo, is scheduled to begin in Spring 2016.
Other regeneration projects announced by the City of Florence for 2016 include reinforcing the city walls at Porta San Giorgio along the narrow street of costa San Giorgio and conservation measures taken to maintain the obelisks, stone lions and the Monument to the Indian in the Cascine Park.
