The Fondazione Giovanni Michelucci is calling for support in order to restore its Fiesole hilltop gardens through a crowdfunding campaign beginning this month.

From its headquarters in the Fiesole house and studio of late architect Giovanni Michelucci, Villa Il Roseto, the Foundation is planning to convert the gardens into a shared cultural and artistic hub, holding classical concerts, painting and photography workshops, original theatre performances and guided tours of the villa’s art collections.

Michelucci lived and worked at Villa Il Roseto with his wife, painter and pianist Eloisa Pacini, and used the gardens as a spot from which to observe and reflect on Florence. Boasting sweeping views over the city, the gardens will host public art and culture activities once they have been redeveloped.

The campaign, named “Innesto Creativo”, has been organized by Social Crowdfunders, a project developed by Tuscan support network Siamosolidali. It has the backing of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, in collaboration with Guanxi Digital Consulting, Impact Hub Firenze and Eppela crowdfunding platform.

Rewards include an invitation to the opening party (10 euro), a painting workshop at Villa Il Roseto (100 euro) and a two-day villa rental with a cultural event (2,000 euro).

Running until March 1, the crowdfunding initiative will seek donations with the aim of raising 20,000 euro. The Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze has pledged to double every euro donated, meaning the project will only rely on public support to reach the first 10,000 euro.
