Celebrating a 600th birthday party takes planning. 2020 will mark 600 years since building work began on Brunelleschi’s dome.

For the occasion, the governing body of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore Council has formed an internal commission to plan an international calendar of events. The commission is considering ideas from all. Email cupola2020@operaduomo.firenze.it.

The Florence Cathedral cupola is still the largest brick dome ever built, boasting an outer diameter of 54.8 metres and an inner one of 45.5 metres.
