In celebration of the 600th anniversary of the Istituto degli Innocenti, its namesake museum is hosting Venturino Venturi mater until May 5, 2019, held in collaboration with Palazzo Vecchio and the Opera del Duomo Museum. The exhibition is dedicated to the recurring theme of maternity in Venturi’s work, which the Tuscan artist was inspired to explore through observations of the everyday and his ancestral links to rebirth and transformation.

The Museo degli Innocenti is the ideal place for this exhibition, says president of the Istituto degli Innocenti, Maria Grazia Giuffrida, “because for six centuries, this place has welcomed, cared for, educated and raised children. The show is also an opportunity to reflect on the universal values and archetypes of maternity, with Venturino Venturi’s art placed in dialogue with works by historic masters who have long represented the ideals and “culture of childhood” that should guide all those who look after children on daily basis.”

Some works in the exhibition will also be on display at the Opera del Duomo Museum. To offer the opportunity to explore both institutions, for the duration of the show, visitors can purchase a single ticket for 18 euro, valid for 72 hours upon first use.
