A getaway from the chaos of city life, a secluded spot for a romantic honeymoon, a destination for memorable summer vacations: those looking for a unique experience should set their sights on the architecturally exceptional Torre di Cala Galera, which stands tall on the Maremma coastline between the old village of Castiglione della Pescaia and Punta Ala. Located in the heart of the Tenuta delle Rocchette estate, Torre di Cala Galera offers the best of nature: tranquil greenery, crystalline sands and sparkling turquoise waters. The complex preserves the serene spirit of the Maremma’s bygone eras.

The tower has a long and rich history, from its beginnings as a lookout point in the thirteenth century to its crucial role as one of the many towers, forts and castles that made up the Grand Duchy of Tuscany’s coastal defence system. It served as a storage space for weapons and storage space. Between 1792 and 1793, lodgings for troops were constructed nearby.

Approximately a century later, nobleman Eugenio Niccolini purchased the tower, along with the castle of Rocchette, which he used as his hunting lodge.

A refined man known for his humanistic, literary and political interests and talents, Niccolini was enamored with the Maremma area, a love he shared in his book on hunting there, Giornate di Caccia (‘Hunting Days’). After his death in 1939, his heirs, the Lucifero family, carefully restored the property to its original splendor.

Quite literally off the beaten path, Torre di Cala Galera is private and serene. The complex comfortably houses up to eight people in four double rooms, each with a private bathroom, all with breathtaking views. Inside the former barracks is a large, luxurious living room with a fireplace; a dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Four of the beds are in the tower and the other four are in other adjacent buildings.

Tenuta delle Rocchette. Summer and Winter Rentals

Beyond the historic Tower of Cala Galera, the Tenuta delle Rocchette boasts a bluff along the ocean where five apartments are available for rent. These tranquil spaces are completely immersed in nature. Two stunning colonial homes house the four apartments, which are called Rosmarino, Mirto, Ginepro, and Lentisco.

Each apartment comes equipped with a double bedroom, triple room, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a generous salon with a sitting space and lunch area.

In each apartment, you can take advantage of a luxurious, private outdoor space, perfect for enjoying a meal against the beautiful backdrop of the sea.

The sea is just a five-minute walk from the apartments, but you can also go by car, parking on the property. Taking public transport, you can easily reach the charming antique village of Castiglione della Pescaia, or the port of Punt’Ala.

Those who love the beach can take advantage of seaside amenities and gorgeous cliff views. Additionally, thanks to an agreement with a neighboring property, visitors can enjoy a tennis court, soccer field and a swimming pool.

Tenuta delle Rocchette also offers horseback rides, bike excursions and boat trips, all by reservation only.
